With an expansive list of lodging options, it can be difficult to know where to stay in Scottsdale. The Phoenix area offers a wonderful place for a vacation any time of year, with plenty of outdoor and cultural activities.

During the cooler months, choosing a resort near restaurants and shopping enables enjoying a walk in the wonderful weather. When the heat is cranking, you can relax by a gorgeous pool or chill in the spa.

Here is my ultimate guide for choosing a resort in Old Town, North Scottsdale, and near Scottsdale. I have personally experienced each of these recommendations and enjoyed their unique features.

The Scott Resort and Spa

The Scott Resort and Spa rests on the edge of downtown Scottsdale with easy access to Fashion Square Mall, The Waterfront, Old Town, and the Gallery District. The boutique hotel offers a relaxing, chic feel with a Cuban flair in its spacious lobby and lush outdoor spaces.

The rooms surround an interior oasis with two pools and a seating area with a pond, waterfall, and fire pit. The family pool slopes up to a sandy beach and is perfect for all ages. My daughter enjoyed playing in this pool at multiple ages and became comfortable with swimming during our several visits. The adult pool features a hot tub and cabanas for a day spent poolside.

Bonus Tip: Book a room that overlooks the courtyard/pool. The others look onto the parking lot.

Caesars Republic Scottsdale

The Caesars Republic lobby introduces you immediately to the opulence of this resort with burbling stone fountains, white marble walls, and contemporary wolf-inspired art. The reception team greeted me with a glass of champagne and warm smiles.

The luxurious room offered cushy furniture, a view of Camelback Mountain, and unique touches, including my favorite: brass snakes for the closet handles. A huge shower had a floor-to-ceiling glass back, looking into the room and the outside view. A privacy screen could also be drawn down if desired.

Caesars Republic offers a convenient location next to Fashion Square Mall and near the Waterfront, Old Town, and the art galleries of Scottsdale’s downtown. Guests can walk to many restaurants and shops.

Signature dining is also available in the hotel. Enjoy Italian cuisine at celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis’ Luna restaurant or cocktails at Lisa Vanderpump’s Wolf lounge.

Bonus Tip: If you really want to splurge, book the opulent presidential or penthouse suite.

The Phoenician: Scottsdale Luxury Collection Resort

A luxurious oasis in the desert, The Phoenician combines an opulent spa, gorgeous rooms, and indulgent dining on lushly landscaped grounds. My room’s balcony provided a wonderful view of the spacious three-tiered pools and the mountains beyond.

Active guests can enjoy the 18-hole golf course, large fitness center, and nearby hiking. The location enables easy routes to many Scottsdale and Phoenix activities.

Bonus Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pools for beautiful Arizona sunsets.

Canopy by Hilton Scottsdale Old Town

Stay in the heart of downtown Scottsdale at the Canopy by Hilton. Guests can walk across the street to Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, around the corner to over three dozen art galleries, and across Scottsdale Road to the kitschy shops of Old Town.

Stroll just beyond that to explore the plants and flowers of the Civic Center Park, visit the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, enjoy a show at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, or attend one of many events hosted in the park each year.

Dozens of restaurants and bars are within a half-mile radius of the hotel. You can also dine at Outrider, the seventh-floor rooftop lounge at Canopy, with comfortable seating and views of Camelback Mountain and the city. Make a reservation for a prime spot to watch a spectacular Arizona sunset.

Bonus Tip: Forego the car rental and relax at this pedestrian-friendly site with plenty to do nearby.

Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Bungalows

Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Bungalows provides a quiet retreat from the bustling city. Although only two miles north of downtown Scottsdale, the 23-acre setting of bungalows separated by trees, cacti, and firepits feels far away from the surrounding urban hubbub.

Andaz will delight guests interested in wellness activities such as yoga, meditation, and sound healing. They can also take classes such as perfume-creation and pasta-making. Amenities also include beautiful pools, a fitness center, a full spa, an apothecary, and live music.

Bonus Tip: Reserve a dinner at Weft & Warp Art Bar + Kitchen to enjoy the exceptionally crafted food and the sunset over Camelback Mountain.

The Westin Kierland Resort and Spa

North Scottsdale has become a vibrant area, with Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter. Staying at The Westin Kierland Resort and Spa puts you near the restaurants and shopping of these and close to my favorite Phoenix museum, the Musical Instrument Museum.

Guests could spend their entire vacation at the resort playing on the lush 27-hole golf course, hanging out in the sprawling, chic lobby lounge, sampling over 360 whiskey labels at the Scotch Library, or rejuvenating at the luxurious spa.

The enormous pool area features plenty of loungers and cabanas for relaxing in the sun, as well as a lazy river, 110-foot-long waterslide, and a flowboard simulator. I have enjoyed many staycations at this resort.

Bonus Tip: Check The Westin Kierland’s website for music and other events happening during your stay.

The Boulders Resort and Spa

If you prefer to immerse yourself in the gorgeous desert environment of North Scottsdale, The Boulders Resort and Spa will not disappoint. Centered by the namesake boulders, the accommodations sport décor inspired by the Sonoran Desert and include fireplaces and stone showers. It is easy to relax in the spacious casitas, villas, or haciendas, or hang out on a balcony or patio surrounded by desert flora.

A staff member will happily transport you in a golf cart to one of the three restaurants on site, the lavish spa, or one of the two award-winning golf courses. Many onsite wellness and fitness opportunities include meditation, a labyrinth, sound baths, swimming, rock climbing, and tennis and pickleball courts. I enjoyed walking the natural paths filled with desert flora and fauna and climbing the trail to the top of the boulders to greet the sunrise.

Bonus Tip: Contact the resort in advance to book nature tours, hot air balloon flights, and horseback riding nearby.

CIVANA Wellness Resort and Spa

Just outside the bustling city of Phoenix, CIVANA Wellness Resort and Spa offers a true retreat amid the tranquility of the desert. In addition to a full spa with an Aqua Therapy Circuit, over 100 classes each week offer a variety of experiences to boost your wellbeing. I enjoyed a trampoline workout, a breath lesson, and guided labyrinth meditation.

Guests can also enjoy hiking, swimming, and dining on seasonal dishes with a strong plant slant. One indulgence I treated myself to was a gluten-free, freshly baked toaster pastry. Each room includes an outdoor space to keep you connected to nature.

Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia

Feel like you have stepped into an old Spanish town at Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia with cerulean blue tiled fountains, ivy-covered arches, and brass lanterns. Even with over 250 rooms, the grounds feel intimate with cozy areas for relaxing around a pool or fire pit.

On-site restaurants feature the fresh, local ingredients of the desert combined into traditional Spanish favorites, such as tacos, tapas, and sangria. Take a break from sightseeing to enjoy the spa and fitness center or hike nearby Camelback Mountain.
